As periodic fighting continues in South Sudan, panicked communities are seeking refuge wherever they can. St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wau is now hosting 16,000 innocent children and families who fled their homes, hoping the church grounds will keep them safe as their country spirals into greater violence. The new wave of arrivals has stretched the capacity of St. Mary’s Cathedral and is lacking basic necessities such as food and other critical essentials like emergency supplies, safe drinking water, and shelter.

According to reports, Sudan’s war has displaced 9 million people in the country. Another 1.7 million escaped to neighboring countries like South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Chad. In total, over 10 million people have been forced to flee the brutal conflict.
