Hope in a Dark Scenario
Offering New Homes for Innocent Orphans

Orphans are the collateral damage of warfare. South Sudan has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world. War has unsettled the region, driving in scores of refugees and putting the number of children in crisis across this region into the millions.
In Nzara — home to St. Bakhita Orphanage — and Rumbek, where the Missionary Sisters of Charity orphanage is located, hope for these innocents is thriving with the support of SRF.
St. Bakhita Orphanage, championed for decades by the courageous Sister Bianca Bii, takes care of more than 150 orphaned children. Your support has made it possible to construct a new, sturdy home for them in the stable locale of Nzara.
Their new home is complete with girls’ and boys’ dormitories allowing for up to 200 children in each, a kitchen, gathering area, and solar powered water well. The children attend a nearby school and have access to quality medical care at an SRF sponsored hospital.
The Missionary Sisters in Rumbek take in extremely malnourished and orphaned babies. The tiny victims often arrive just breaths away from death’s door. But with around the clock nursing care and the tender attention of the sisters, many of these young lives thrive.

Here, SRF generosity has contributed to facility upgrades and shipments of vital medicine to support the dedicated sisters in their tireless efforts to provide tender care of “the least of these.”

Educating to Fight Poverty
Teacher Training Grows Through SRF Funding
While education is recognized as a natural right for children in developed nations, a tragic number of children in Sudan and South Sudan don’t have access to regular schooling.
The Solidarity Teacher Training College (STTC) in Yambio is fighting the shortage of educators by raising up more teachers to serve in critically needed and underserved areas.
Thanks to the support of our donors the construction of a new, modern building for STTC has now been completed. It contains two large classrooms that will accommodate about 80 students and a small room that will be used as the Principal’s office and for staff meetings.
Having two new large classrooms will be of great benefit to simultaneously conduct classes for students of several courses that often share the same program (Pre-service, In-service and Diploma programs). It will also host examinations and student meetings.
The increased space will allow STTC to reach more people from neighboring communities, allowing them to pursue an education that would otherwise have been unreachable.

SRF knows education is a key to empower future generations and stop the cycle of poverty that has plagued this region. Through our donors and local partners like STTC, we are building educational infrastructure for a more prosperous future for the next generations here.
The Lives You’ve Saved
Donor Generosity Feeds 33,000 Children in Nuba Mountains
The remote Nuba Mountain region is a place of both hard living and refuge for a swelling number of desperate souls. Since the outbreak of war, over one million people have fled here to escape violence, depleting already scarce food supplies.
Now, thanks to an incredible outpouring of generosity from SRF donors, over 33,000 severely malnourished children have been given a chance to survive amidst these brutal conditions.
Donor funding allowed SRF to coordinate the delivery of 17,901 cartons of the vital nutritional supplement Plumpy’Nut to this hard to reach, hard hit region in the final months of 2024.
Plumpy’Nut is considered a revolutionary tool in combating malnutrition. It is a high-calorie, nutrient-dense food specifically designed to treat severe acute malnutrition in children, allowing them to rapidly gain weight and recover from starvation in situations where access to clean water and proper nutrition is limited.
The war has brought a halt to farming and cut off supply routes, leaving over three million people in Nuba at risk of starvation.

To combat the catastrophic hunger crisis, SRF donors have stood up and fed the hungry — and more is to come. We will continue to fund and coordinate shipments of this vital lifesaving supplement in the year ahead.

Constructing a Solid Future in Rimenze
Ready for the Final Touches at School Serving 1,000
With an enrollment of over 1,000 students, the Brothers of Christian Instruction schools promote God’s Kingdom through a holistic and transformative education in Western Equatoria State and South Sudan as a whole.
Partnering with SRF has enabled the Brothers to lay the building blocks for a brighter future for the region. Most recently, SRF funded the purchase of a vehicle for the facility in Rimenze — a critical lifeline in this remote region. School staff now have the freedom to travel for supplies, emergencies, or to transport students who live long distances from the school.

In addition, SRF will be funding completion of the school’s multipurpose hall, so young learners can enjoy a safe and modern experience. The hall serves as an important spot for both learning and community gathering. Students take their meals there, and Sunday Mass is celebrated there as well. It also serves as a center for parent and staff meetings.
The latest round of funding will allow the Brothers to complete plaster work, doors, and other important fittings.
Construction of the hall has been a steady labor of love, generously supported throughout by SRF donors. Thanks to your support and God’s love, the final touches are now ready to be added.
