When Everything Is Lost

Emergency Survival Supplies Save Lives

In one moment, the lives of hundreds of thousands of families in Sudan were torn apart as fighting raged through their community and destroyed everything in its path.

More than a million people fled for their lives to South Sudan to escape. They dodged gunfire and artillery shells to get out. Their homes were burned, bombed, and reduced to rubble. Their city is in ruins.

Now they have nothing left but their lives. News like this is heartwrenching. It’s difficult to imagine enduring trauma of that magnitude with your family. But we wonder, what can we do to help from so far away?

When people have lost everything, their most urgent need is the essentials to survive another day. Emergency survival supplies answer this need.

When exhausted families arrive at a refugee camp, often after days without food or water, they receive critical, lifesaving emergency supplies that help them survive and recover –  a gift that offers the first shred of hope following a traumatizing ordeal.

Essential supplies are given to the weary family or to a terrified orphaned child to meet their immediate needs – shelter, hygiene, and nourishment. Some haven’t eaten for days. Some are children who became separated or orphaned. Almost all have lost everything they had.

“The situation was good before the war. We could cultivate groundnuts and bake bread.

They attacked one early morning, before we could eat breakfast. We did not have time to think of anything. We took what we could and fled.

We lost two of my children on the way. All the families ran in different directions. I did not manage to meet my children again. Up to now I don’t know where they are. There’s no phone to even know. One of them is 6 years old, the other is 4.

We walked five days until the tractors reached us and we got a ride. We had not eaten anything during those days.”

Desperate mother left with nothing after war ravaged the family’s home.

Emergency survival supplies minister to the immediate needs of victims like these, providing lifesaving help after the shock of loss. Sudan Relief Fund works closely with trusted partners on the ground to identify the most urgent needs in an emergency, and takes action to supply those greatest needs.

Your partnership helps deliver lifesaving supplies like non-perishable food items, clean water containers, cooking pots and eating utensils, blankets and tarps for temporary shelter, and hygiene essentials. It doesn’t replace their loss. But it provides what they need most urgently. And it offers a measure of comfort to weary victims in the aftermath of tragedy.

For many who escaped, this is the first food they have eaten in days.

Emergency survival supplies provide an easy way to send help across the world to refugees who need it immediately. By providing these resources, you make an incredible difference to helpless families, even from far away.

Huge Impact – Small Cost

Another benefit of these lifesaving resources is they are extremely affordable. For a little you can do so much for a family in severe need.

$66 Provides emergency supplies for 3 Families
$132 Provides emergency supplies for 6 Families
$198 Provides emergency supplies for 9 Families

With just $66 you can help three families start over after the trauma of war. A gift of $132 reaches six families with lifesaving help. And $198 provides the urgent needs for nine families struggling to survive displacement. Imagine what it would cost to buy each of these items individually and send them. We deliver these critical items to families as quickly and efficiently as possible, based on the most urgent need.

No time to wait. Critically malnourished children receive lifesaving shipments of Plumpy’Nut nutrition.

“Since the war broke out, I lost my mother, I lost my father. I lost everything.

The morning of the attack I was at home and my mother was sick. We ran to escape with my children. I carried my mother on a donkey cart as she could not walk. When we were near the mountains, we stopped to bury her. My two brothers were shot and killed during the escape.

When we reached [South Kordofan] there was no food. The children slept without food. That is when I collected green leaves to cook and feed them.”
