Nutrition for Body and Soul
Food Shipment Aids Young Learners at St. Martin de Porres
SRF recently provided funding for a vital food donation to the Congregation of St. Martin de Porres Brothers, helping ensure that vulnerable children receive nutritious meals each day while continuing their education.
The St. Martin de Porres Brothers are a teaching order dedicated to serving orphans and displaced children in one of South Sudan’s most challenging regions. Located near the South Sudan–Uganda border, their mission has become even more critical as the area experiences an influx of refugees fleeing violence and instability.
In addition to supporting the brothers’ ministry, SRF also helps fund the school they operate for orphaned and displaced children. For many students, the school provides not only education but also stability, safety, and hope for the future.
The recent food assistance will enable the brothers to purchase essential staples, including corn, beans, sorghum, salt, cooking oil, and onions. These supplies will provide daily meals for the children and help sustain the growing number of families seeking refuge in the area.
Reliable access to food plays a crucial role in a child’s ability to learn. Through this support, SRF and its donors are helping nourish both the bodies and minds of children who have already endured tremendous hardship, giving them the opportunity to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.

More Than a Meal
Plumpy’Nut Donations Support Lifesaving Care in Nuba
Sudan Relief Fund’s ongoing Plumpy’Nut distribution program in the Nuba Mountains is doing far more than providing lifesaving food to vulnerable families. Called “the miracle in a packet”, Plumpy’Nut is an inexpensive, medically formulated nutrition paste that’s highly effective in treating extreme malnutrition.
While recently visiting refugee camps in the region, SRF’s David Dettoni witnessed firsthand how this initiative is transforming lives through both nutrition and healthcare. He observed that the program has evolved into a vital point of contact for medical care in remote and underserved communities.
Thanks to SRF donor support, trained nurses are stationed at the camps during distributions, allowing them to provide critical triage services and identify serious health concerns that might otherwise go untreated.
The nurses conduct regular weekly check-ins with pregnant and nursing mothers, monitoring their health and the well-being of their children. They also evaluate patients suffering from a variety of medical conditions, including certain heart ailments. They can identify severe cases and refer patients to Mother of Mercy Hospital, where Dr. Tom Catena and his dedicated team provide advanced treatment that would otherwise be inaccessible.
What began as a program to combat malnutrition here has become a lifeline for entire communities. In a region marked by poverty, displacement, and limited healthcare access, this integrated approach is truly working miracles.

The Lives You’ve Saved
Clean Water Lifts Lives in Juba
How many lives are impacted by a single well?
In the case of the recently completed solar powered well in the Archdiocese of Juba, that answer is easily 1,200 or more. Funded through a generous SRF donor, the joyous opening of the new well was attended recently by SRF Vice President Matt Smith, who was “deeply moved” by the excitement and gratitude expressed by villagers at the arrival of this life-giving tool in their community.
Placed at Holy Cross Parish in the village of Kondokoro, the well means residents will no longer face a daily ten mile hike in desperate searches for a clean water supply. The area has long faced chronic water scarcity, forcing families — especially women and children — to walk long distances to fetch unsafe water, resulting in disease, loss of productivity, and hardship.

This project included drilling of a borehole, installation of a solar-powered submersible pump, building an elevated storage tank, and creating distribution points for both parish and community use. The system will serve an estimated 1,200–1,800 beneficiaries.
Sustainable management will be ensured through a parish-led Water Committee and a community-driven maintenance plan.
An Investment in Health
CHAMPS Program Nurtures the Most Vulnerable

Doing the crucial work of sustaining health and providing hope for the future, SRF takes pride in its regular support of the CHAMPS (Children and Mothers Partnerships) program, a vital and far-reaching long-term maternal and child health care initiative.
For 2026, we allocated $50,000 additional funding to strengthen MNCH (maternal, newborn and child health) interventions in severely impoverished, rural regions such as Nzara, Tambura and Yambio to combat alarming rates of maternal and infant mortality.
Access to healthcare providers across South Sudan remains terribly inadequate, with the situation heightened by a decline in external support as many governments and NGOs who previously supported it leave the area.
Consequently, those facilities still operating are seeing both a sharp decrease in their access to critical medications, while also experiencing the strain of a heightened demand for services from displaced people fleeing into their regions, or traveling from regions where care is no longer available.
The CHAMPS program targets populations where there are no other donor-funded health programs. In 2025, its six facilities provided health services to more than 15,000 people, including over 1,700 pregnant and lactating mothers, more than 1,700 newborns, and 8,900-plus children under five.
The continuing success of the CHAMPS program shows what’s possible when SRF and its supporters team with local partners to provide desperately needed resources.
